Accessibility at HDLS 16

Presentation repository and accessibility

HDLS 16 is made accessible by using ASL interpreters in each session. When presenting at this conference, you will be working with a team of ASL interpreters. In order for the signed language interpreters to do their best work, it is necessary that they prepare in advance. Please submit an outline, handouts, presentation slides, and/or poster file by October 25th, 2024. This will ensure that the interpreters become familiar with specific vocabulary and how to spell it accurately, how vocabulary and technical terms are used within your discipline, and the context of your presentation. Even in draft form, such information will be extremely helpful for the interpreters. HDLS 16 is also made accessible to attendees with vision impairment by providing them with the materials soon before the time of the session.

As such, drafts and final presentation and poster materials are to end up in a presentation repository. We will send an email with a link to access this folder to the first author soon. Upload your presentation to the folder labeled with the first author’s last name followed by “_” and then the name of the presentation. With these policies, the interpreters can easily access your presentation to prepare for it and your colleagues can easily find your presentation during the session. It is the responsibility of the authors to upload presentations here. During the conference, you will access your presentation from this repository rather than from a personal device. As stated, this is important for accessibility purposes but it also has the benefit of decreasing technological difficulties during the sessions.
